Cape Town, South Africa – Hytera Communications, a leading global provider of professional communications technologies and solutions, is set to highlight its latest innovations in intrinsically safe (IS) communication devices, including smartphone and two-way radios, at this year’s Africa Tech Festival from 13 to 16 November in Cape Town. Besides the new product releases, Hytera will showcase its complete mission and business-critical communications solutions to empower industrial and government users from Southern African countries and beyond to work safer and more efficiently.
Leveraging Hytera’s extensive industry experience of over three decades in IS electronics development, its latest devices feature robust IS circuits, explosion-proof batteries, anti-static technology, and dual antimagnetic mechanisms to reduce the potential risk of explosion caused by overheating or electronic sparks. These advancements have been meticulously engineered in line with Hytera’s commitment to bolstering workplace safety without compromising on performance. The highlighted new releases include PNC460U IS Smart Device, HP79XEx IS DMR Portable Two-way Radio, and PT890Ex IS TETRA Portable Radio.
The PNC460U is a UL913-certified explosion-proof ruggedized smartphone, which is engineered to bring data-rich productivity applications into industrial use cases, especially at sites with explosive gas and combustible dust; with a physical push-to-talk (PTT) key on the side, it seamlessly blends smartphone capabilities with Push-to-talk over Cellular (PoC) radio functionalities and gives users the most intuitive way of initiating group calls.
Bolstering Hytera’s Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) offerings are two new entries – the PT890Ex and HP79XEx. The PT890Ex, a TETRA portable radio, and its counterpart, the HP79XEx, a DMR variant, are both IECEx certified. Crafted with advanced explosion-proof materials, the new radios are engineered to withstand intense temperatures ranging from -25°C to 60°C (-13°F to 140°F) in hazardous environments without the risk of triggering explosions. Additionally, PT890Ex and HP79XEx utilize innovative silicone encapsulation technology to guard against threats like liquids and flammable dust from intruding the circuits. The adoption of multiple circuit protection mechanisms further enhances safety even with a high audio output power of 2 watts.
Speaking on the imminent launch of the products, Mark Zheng, Director of Hytera Southern Africa, says the upcoming new devices position the company as the only vendor that is capable of offering IS devices across three communications protocols including DMR, TETRA, and PoC.

The launch of these products into the South African market form part of Hytera’s global expansion plan and commitment to the Southern African region, following the company’s recent relocation of its Southern African headquarters to Maxwell Office Park in Johannesburg.
Hytera’s booth at the Africa Tech Festival, E60, will also showcase its comprehensive portfolio of communications solutions, including body cameras, unified communications, and integrated command and control systems.
