HPE Africa’s newly launched Hyundai HX380L Series crawler excavators – which are classified in the medium to large category – are now available locally.

“These robust machines – already hard at work in tough African conditions – have impressive performance features that are welcomed in demanding industries, like mining, quarrying, construction and civil engineering,” says Ross Collard, Managing Director, HPE Africa – exclusive distributors for Hyundai Construction Equipment in Southern Africa. “Our new HX380L excavators, which offer net power ratings of 224 kW at 1 650 rpm, set a new benchmark for fuel economy. This efficiency not only translates to significant cost savings for operators, but also minimises environmental impact, aligning with Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability in every aspect of its business.

“Intensive field testing of HX380L excavators in tough conditions shows impressive performance. Whether digging, loading or lifting, the opinion of operators is that the HX Series – with an operating weight of up to 40 320 kg – excels in terms of efficiency, control, reduced downtime and maximum output.

“In addition, through new hydraulic system enhancements, these excavators deliver faster cycle speeds, resulting in enhanced productivity and efficiency on site. Notable advancements over the Hyundai 9A series include up to 10 times greater fuel efficiency during truck loading and levelling, up to five times faster during tuck loading and four times faster during levelling.

“The newly designed boom float mode option improves stability and control during operation on arduous terrain, allowing the boom to float as the arm is moved in and out, ensuring precision and accuracy in every task.”

In line with Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability, these new excavators are fitted with eco-friendly, high-performance engines which meet Tier 4 Final emission requirements.

The new HX Series offers highly efficient Variable Power Control, with three power modes – Power (P), Standard (S), and Economy (E) – giving operators the versatility to customise performance to suit the exact demands of specific applications.

The HX Series excavators – with a robust upper and lower frame structure, reinforced pins, bushings and polymer shims – incorporate advanced technologies to optimise productivity and improve operator comfort. These features include an electronic viscous fan clutch that lowers noise levels and reduces fuel consumption by precisely controlling RPM, depending on the hydraulic oil and coolant temperature. During cold applications the fan slows to allow hydraulic oil to warm up to optimal operating temperature. The Intelligent Power Control (IPC) mode analyses operator control patterns and automatically adjusts engine RPM and hydraulic flow to ensure maximum fuel economy and productivity.

With the flip of a newly designed toggle switch, the left-hand pedal can be set for straight forward and reverse travel, which is a convenient feature when working along roads, banks and trenches and when travelling longer distances. This new design replaces the traditional extra pedal, freeing up floor space for the operator.

The ECO gauge function enables operators to accurately monitor fuel consumption in real time or review historical data. The coloured gauge displays engine torque, fuel efficiency, the average and total fuel consumed, as well as hourly and daily fuel consumption.

The HX series has been designed with an improved pump flow rate by giving the operator independent control of two pumps to suit exact requirements. The vertically stacked cooling configuration provides improved cooling efficiency through increased air flow and reduced heat. The cooler door grille is designed for maximum air flow and reduced contamination.

Hyundai’s new buckets are reinforced with wear-resistant Hardox 400 steel and high-grade, high-pressure hoses offer increased heat- and pressure-resistance for improved durability.

A key feature of the low-vibration operator’s cab is the convenient cluster design of electronic controls and monitoring functions, resulting in improved operator accuracy and efficiency.

A standard feature of these machines is the Hyundai Hi-Mate Remote Management System. This GPS-based software system enables equipment owners and service personnel to track and monitor construction machines, facilitating preventive maintenance and reducing equipment downtime, further enhancing overall productivity and efficiency.

HPE Africa supports HX380L excavators with a standard warranty of 3 000 hours, plus a 5-year, 10,000-hour structural warranty, as well as the Hyundai Extend optional extended-warranty programme.

The company’s range includes Hyundai wheel loaders, tracked and wheeled excavators, backhoe loaders, skid steer loaders and motor graders. HPE Africa also supplies and supports Soosan hydraulic breakers and quick couplers, which are complimentary attachments to Hyundai construction equipment.

HPE Africa specialists recommend the use of Hyundai genuine parts and lubricants to ensure the highest levels of performance, reliability and safety from every machine. Service intervals for this series are standard – every 250 hours.

All machines are supported by skilled technical service and after-sales teams throughout Southern Africa.
