In the evolving world of mining and mineral processing, Multotec remains steadfast in its commitment to driving innovation through research and development. This dedication was highlighted at Electra Mining Africa 2024, where Multotec unveiled a range of advanced products and solutions. These new advancements not only demonstrate Multotec’s commitment to improving manufacturing capabilities but also emphasise its consistent backing of the industry with sophisticated customised technologies.

H450 Conturbex Centrifuge

One of the key products on display was the H450 Conturbex Centrifuge, a continuously operating filtration centrifuge. The centrifuge features a rotating assembly that generates centrifugal forces to separate solids from liquids using a screen element. Gerrit du Plessis, Product Specialist at Multotec, explains that this product is ideal for applications requiring the mechanical dewatering of process streams to produce a dewatered product or recover a liquid from solid waste.

The centrifuge significantly enhances mining operations by providing continuous and efficient solids-liquid separation, which is essential for dewatering and mineral recovery. Its high throughput capacity allows for the processing of large volumes of material, making it ideal for large-scale mining projects. The centrifuge’s robust construction ensures durability in harsh mining environments, while its energy-efficient design helps reduce operational costs. This results in improved productivity, reduced waste and enhanced resource recovery, ultimately optimising the mining process.

Shaking Fluidised Bed Dryer

Another featured product was the Shaking Fluidised Bed Dryer, also known as the Tema Process Dryer. This unit thermally treats powders, crystalline products, and pelletised materials through fluidised air contact, achieving the desired final moisture content.

Du Plessis notes that the shaking motion enhances fluidisation and transport, making it an energy-efficient solution for reducing moisture in products. “This dryer can operate at product temperatures up to 400˚C, using various mediums such as air, steam, and inert gas,” he says.

It is particularly beneficial for industries requiring final drying steps, such as the food industry, which seeks to alter taste, flavour, and texture. The dryer’s design allows for the use of high-temperature-resistant materials, reducing energy costs and maintenance.

MA Oryx Pump

Multotec also showcased the MA Oryx Pump, designed for the slurry industry with a focus on reduced wear, increased performance, and ease of maintenance.

Gerhard Hendriksz, Vice President – Growth Products, highlights that this pump is suitable for any mining operation and is particularly effective in slurry applications.

The pump is engineered to reduce downtime, with features that facilitate easier maintenance, such as adjustable impellers and gland packing. It allows for pumping at higher elevations with reduced speed, which in turn reduces wear rates, extending the pump’s lifespan.

Stainless Steel Cyclone

The new stainless steel cyclone was another highlight at Multotec’s exhibit. This cyclone, made entirely of stainless steel, is ideal for industries where contamination of processed slurry or liquid is unacceptable.

Ernst Bekker, Product Specialist – Cyclones at Multotec, says that unlike traditional cyclones with rubber linings, which can degrade over time, the stainless steel cyclone ensures purity and is suitable for high-temperature environments.

“The cyclone is designed to operate at temperatures up to 100˚C and is versatile enough to be used across various industries, including food and chemicals. It is especially beneficial in environments where high temperature and corrosion resistance are essential,” says Bekker.

Richard Haydon, Product Specialist – Cyclones at Multotec, notes that the stainless steel cyclone’s ability to support various difficult applications demonstrates the flexibility and technical ability of Multotec’s cyclone team.

Integrated Solution

By combining the H450 Conturbex Centrifuge, Shaking Fluidised Bed Dryer, MA Oryx Pump, and stainless steel cyclone into an integrated solution, Multotec offers clients the ability to produce high-quality products that meet customer demands in terms of dryness, purity, and flow characteristics.
