ENGIE South Africa has appointed Sanjeev Mungroo as Country Manager, effective 1 June 2026, expanding his leadership role as the company supports South Africa’s evolving energy market through renewable generation, batteries, energy management, and customer-focused solutions.
Mungroo takes on the broader country leadership role after rejoining ENGIE earlier this year as Managing Director: Renewables and Batteries. His appointment marks the next step in a career closely connected to South Africa’s energy sector and ENGIE’s growth in the country. In his new role, he will lead ENGIE’s South African business as the country’s electricity market continues to evolve through market liberalisation, new procurement programmes, growing private-sector participation, and increased demand for reliable and lower-carbon energy solutions.
Over more than three decades in the energy sector, Mungroo has worked across global independent power producers, investment banking, engineering, infrastructure, project finance, operations, and business development. After being one of ENGIE South Africa’s earliest employees when the company first established operations locally, Mungroo returned to the Group from banking, where he had played a key role in building one of the region’s leading energy finance divisions.
“Being appointed Country Manager is both a professional responsibility and a personal milestone. I am excited to help lead ENGIE’s next phase in South Africa as the market opens, customer needs evolve, and the country works to build a more resilient energy future. The country is entering an important phase in its energy transition, and ENGIE South Africa has a meaningful role to play as a long-term energy partner. My focus will be on strengthening our contribution across energy generation, batteries, energy management, and solutions that support customers, communities, and the wider electricity system,” says Mungroo.
ENGIE says Mungroo’s appointment supports its ambition to contribute to South Africa’s energy transition through investment, development, operations, and practical energy solutions for customers.
