Zander Gresse matriculated from Hoërskool Hugenote in Springs in 2023 with more than a Matric Certificate to his name. He also completed his N1 Industrial Electronics and N1 Trade Theory – thanks to a dedicated teacher, Mr Christo Jordaan, who started offering extra classes to interested students of his own accord. Recently, Gresse had the opportunity to show learners following in his footsteps how that initiative is paying off.
At an open evening for Grade 7 learners and their parents, hosted by high schools in Springs, Gresse shared his journey. In 2023, he joined Werner Pumps – a leading South African manufacturer of high-pressure jetting and pumping equipment based in Springs.
Putting his electronics and robotics grounding from Mr Jordaan to use, he began working as an auto electrician apprentice and is now working towards his Red Seal. He says he hadn’t realised how broad the field of electronics and robotics really is until you “start working with it yourself”.
One of the highlights of the evening was when Gresse was able to show off one of the Werner Pumps trucks off to the learners and their families. He loved demonstrating how all the electrical components on the truck function together to make the truck operate like it should, and encouraged them to consider the endless possibilities that studying electronics and robotics offers.
